Author Page

Hi, this is my author page.

When I started writing ABOUT books around a decade ago, it was always in the back of my mind that someday, maybe, if the stars aligned and I had the right idea and the time, I might want to write my own book one day. Well, that day has come and I am writing a book! I even have an agent! The wonderful Rachel McMillan is representing me and currently submitting my debut nonfiction book.

I Blame Jane: Why I Can’t Stop Seeing Jane Austen Everywhere in Pop Culture

That’s the title of my book. At least, that’s the working title I’ve proposed. If and when it’s bought by a publisher, they might decide to change it, which I’m mostly ok with as long as they come up with something good.

What’s it about?

If you’re at all familiar with my writing (or you just read the title I came up with), it will come as no surprise that my book is about Jane Austen. In particular it’s about Jane Austen’s influence in popular culture. I’m structuring the book as an essay collection, with most of the chapters each focusing on a certain genre or category of popular media, like, say, fantasy fiction, or pop music, and exploring the traces of Austen influence, inspiration, or parallels I see in those works. A lot of the material for the book comes from pieces I’ve already published here on this blog, as well as content and discussions from my TikTok, plus a few pieces I’ve published elsewhere, like this most recent on Literary Hub.

When will it be published?

I don’t know! It’s currently on submission, which means my agent is pitching it to editors at various publishers. If and when one decides to buy it, and we get a book deal, then I’ll know. And you’ll know, too, because I’m definitely going to tell anyone who will listen when that happens!

How can you be involved/hear more news about the book?

Subscribe to my work! Subscribe here, or to my Substack, or both if you’re feeling it, and follow me on socials, especially TikTok as that’s where my main audience is. I’ll do my best to keep you updated on publishing dates, and any other info you need to know if you want to read and/or buy my book once it’s out.

Thank you!

No, seriously, thank you. I can’t express what it means to me that you’ve taken the time to read a few of my words, and that you’re interested in reading more. My favorite thing about writing is the connections and conversations I get to have with other people because of it.
